The Serpentine Wall is a massive contoured wall of steps forming the boundary to the Ohio River at Yeatman's Cove and Sawyer Point near downtown Cincinnati. The wall has practical as well as asthetic purposes, since the water levels in the river can fluctuate widely. These steps are used as informal bleachers for riverfront events, such as the Tall Stacks festival, and speedboat races.

How does that happen?! I stumbled upon the Spray Ground at Sawyer Point quite by accident. I had gone down the Ohio River to see The Memphis Queen, a riverboat that had docked there for the afternoon. It was a gorgeous day, bright and sunny and very cool for August so I decided to explore that park a bit. And I'm so glad I did!

The Story: Yeatman's Cove is a riverfront park on the Ohio River with front-row views of the Cincinnati Ohio skyline. In 1976, the city built this serpentine-shaped flood wall on the banks of the Ohio River which gives visitors quiet space and viewpoints to look across to Newport Kentucky. On this day, the sinuous steps move from daylight to shadows creating an interesting composition.
