Avoid growing peaches in areas where temperatures drop below minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit or frost shows up after mid-April. Remove weeds regularly from a growing peach tree so your tree gets as many vital nutrients and moisture from the soil as possible. Peach trees need soil with plenty of drainage and airflow and a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.

Fertilizing Peach Trees. Young peach trees should be watered with a (10-10-10) fertilizer the first time about a week after planting. Then a second time about 6-8 weeks after planting. Peach trees can be grown in USDA Zones 4 to 10, but do especially well in Zones 6 to 8 (learn more about plant hardiness zones). If you live in one of these latter zones, you can focus on choosing a variety based on its flavor and harvest time.. The easiest way to propagate a non-grafted tree is through softwood cuttings. Take these steps: Take a 9-inch cutting in the spring when growth is soft and green. Dip it in rooting hormone to help the cutting take. Plant the cutting in a sterile potting medium, and keep it moist. Roots should form in around a month.

Method 5: Kitchen Counter, No Bag. By day three, the peaches kept on the kitchen counter had a little give but were still fairly firm, and it took about five days for the fruit to feel and smell ripe. These peaches were juicy and tender, though not quite as delicious as the ones ripened in a paper bag with an apple.

Gently loosen the root ball and set it on a small mound of soil at the bottom of the hole, centering it in the hole. Grafted plants should be situated so that the graft union is two inches above the soil level. Prune other branches that are taller than 30 inches. Ideally, all branches of your peach tree should grow at a 45-degree angle. If you are planting more than one peach tree, give them each adequate space. Give standard-size varieties 18 to 20 feet and dwarf varieties 5 feet. Often times, an unripe peach will ripen on the counter. If a peach was picked too early, it may not ripen ever on the counter. We have found that peaches picked a bit too early will often ripen if put in a paper bag for a day. Sometimes, peaches are simply off the tree too early and will never ripen on the counter.

Choose a pot that is big enough to hold the peaches that you would like to poach. The poaching liquid can be plain water, sugared water, or fruit juice. Ensure you have liquid in the pot to cover the fruit completely. If it helps you to gauge the volume of liquid required, you can put the fruit into the pot and then put the liquid in after.

Planting: Choose a well-drained location that receives full sun for at least 6-8 hours a day. Redhaven Peach trees prefer slightly acidic soil with a pH range of 6.0-6.5. Before planting, amend the soil with organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility and drainage.
