Exmouth / ˈ ɛ k s m ə θ / is a. a National Trust-owned open space which rises to a peak at Orcombe Point. Geologically, the low hill known as "The Beacon", in the centre of the present town, is formed of breccias that are an outcrop of a similar formation on the west side of the Exe estuary.

Orcombe Point is found to the south of the town of Exmouth, a coastal headland overlooking the Exe estuary. The geology here dates back to the Triassic period, and displays a characteristic red colouring. Sited at Orcombe Point is the GeoNeedle, a stone monument marking the start of the 96 mile Jurassic Coast - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
