Upon Googling, I found that this recipe is actually pretty close to the classic Crisco sugar cookie recipe (except that Maureen's uses an extra egg, 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar, no milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 teaspoon baking soda instead of baking powder).
