And if players fail to change it before starting their campaign, they would have been stuck with it for the rest of their playthrough. All the latter is from wikipedia. It's the last letter of various alphabet (hebrew, arabic..) Interestingly : in the Book of Ezekiel, Tav (Taw) is the marking for those that were safe from the destruction of Jerusalem. It would make a nice parallel with BG3's Tav and other being safe from the illithid transformation.

I saw a post at one point that noted all the player character VAs are credited as "Tadpoled Adventurer" which is presumably what inspired "Tav" as the default name.
