Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) war ein unterschätztes Genie. Als Künstler führte er ein turbulentes, von psychischen Krankheiten geprägtes Leben und konnte nur ein einziges Bild verkaufen. Sein umfangreiches Werk, welches aus mehr als 900 Bildern besteht, die er in einem Zeitraum von zehn Jahren malte, wurde erst nach seinem Tod gewürdigt.

März 1853 in Groot-Zundert, einem Landstädtchen in Nordbrabant, als Sohn des Pfarrers Theodorus van Gogh und seiner Frau Anna Cornelia, der Tochter eines Buchbinders, zur Welt.
