The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 are sports cars which were produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1971 until 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker after the G-Class. They were sold under the SL (R107) and SLC (C107) model names in a variety of names indicating the displacement of the engines.

The R107 Mercedes-Benz SL is relatively small in comparison to other Mercedes products from this era. Surprisingly, underneath the hood lives one of three fabulous V8 engines; I6 variants are European market only and exist in the states only as imports.Early examples receive a 4.5-liter V8 that produces only 190 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque thanks to early 1970s emission regulations.

MERCEDES W107 SL TIMELINE. Development of the R107 SL began at the end of the 1960s, with the intention of replacing the W113 SL Pagoda. Specifications of the Mercedes Benz R107 (C107) There were a wide variety of engine capacities available. These ranged from a 2.6-litre "straight six" to a massive 5.6-litre V8. Both automatic and manual transmissions were available. A five-speed manual transmission was provided for the 280 and 300 SL/SLC line.

The R107 took the chassis components of the mid size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class. The W 107 chassis is also referred to as "R 107" for "Reihe" (series). The series comprised SL and SLC models. The SL variant was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and hardtop.

Officially, the 1971-1989 Mercedes-Benz SL/C has never been coded W107 (W is for Wagen) like its sedan counterparts or even past SLs (W113 Pagoda or W198 I/II 300SL).
