I,m thinking along the lines of a cattle panel rolled in a circle and wired shut. Has anyone ever done this?

The basic frame for the hay bale blind is made out of construction grade plywood and 2"x 4" construction lumber. If you want to, you can upgrade that to pressure treated lumber, but we're going to be covering the whole thing with black plastic, so it should be waterproof. Round hay bales are usually about six feet in diameter and five feet wide.

4. Location: Minnesota. As the title says, I finally took the time to build a hay bale blind and it turned out about how I was hoping. Hopefully it can hold up to MN weather. I think next year I may change the hay to just a burlap for a couple of reasons. Easier to replace, won't attract critters quite as much and much less hassle.

I was planning to make the bale 6' wide and the cattle panels are 16' long, so one of these should fit over the top perfect. Then, the sides will need to have another one. But, I'm building 2, so I can split one between the 2 blinds. They're cheap at $26 and should last longer than the erosion blankets.

I pretty much did what writer stated earlier but I welded a base frame for the cattle panels to fasten to pin of rebar. It is pretty sturdy. My first attempt I spread hay out over black plastic that was fastened to the cattle panels then fastened 2x4 wire over that. It lasted about a yr then started falling out.

I used 2 16' panels for the cage and cut them longways to get them to 7' wide which is how wide the hay bales are up here, I then layed them on the ground side by side and tacked them in place and went back and welded them together .
