El Pico del Buitre es unos de los mejores lugares del mundo para la observación del espacio dada su baja contaminación lumínica. La primera instalación para este fin comenzó en 1992, aunque se interrumpió por falta de financiación.

El Pico del Buitre, con una altitud de 2465 m s. n. m., es la tercera montaña más alta de la provincia de Almería ( España ). Está ubicado en la Cordillera Penibética, en la Sierra Nevada almeriense. En la provincia, ignorando algunas cimas secundarias, sólo le superan en altitud el Chullo y el Almirez, en la misma sierra.

Beautiful circular hike starting in Al Compartir and continuing through the Ortigas Gorge and forest tracks until reaching the Pico del Buitre. To get to the Casca Alta there is no path as such, so it is advisable to download the AllTrails map. On the way down, you pass through the Stone Arch and return to the starting point.
